Riley O’Boyle 215 pounder from Southern Regional will be heading into his senior season. He lost in the “blood round” of the state tournament this past season, but that isn’t going to deter him from having high expectations for this upcoming season.

Southern is looking to be a top contender in the state this year, their goals were cut short when they lost to Phillipsburg in the Group 5 State Semis. They’re are ready to beat any team in their way and have huge expectations not only from fans, but for themselves.

When asked about the teams goals for this upcoming season O’Boyle said this “Number one team in New Jersey , Group 5 State Champs, Win the A-South, and have as many state qualifiers as possible”.

Now this is a tall task for any team in the state but with the way Southern looks this year maybe it’s not that far from reality. O’Boyle believes this is one of the best teams that the rams have had in years, “Senior Leadership, team chemistry, coaching and hunger” O’Boyle stated

Almost the entire Southern starting lineup is back from the 2021-2022 season. The Rams will return with 7 seniors who saw the mat last year, including 3 state ranked seniors in Conor Collins, Cole Velardi, as well as Riley himself and we definitely can’t forget about the junior hammer Matt Henrich.

O’Boyle stated that the team he would be looking forward to wrestling against most would be Christian Brothers Academy, which would be a great match to show who truly owns South Jersey this season.

With that all being said, O’Boyle still has personal goals. O’Boyle plans on hopefully making a run for the podium this season. Don’t be surprised when he reaches podium as we have him currently ranked at #6 in our preseason 215 pound rankings.

When asked about who he was looking forward to wrestling individually he gave the answer “anyone that is ranked above me”. Keep your eye out for O’Boyle and Southern as they will be a story to follow all season long.
