Zack Small the New Mexico native has announced his commitment to the University of North Colorado. Small stated via twitter, “I’d like to announce that I’ll be pursuing my academic goals and continuing my wrestling career at the University of Northern Colorado! Thank you to everyone that has supported me and helped me along the way”.
Unfortunately Small did not get to wrestle in any tournaments his 2021-22 season due to a torn ATFL ligament. According to Small, “I redshirted and didn’t get to wrestle in any tournaments”.
Some of Small’s most notable accomplishments consist of being a four time state placer, a three time finalist and 1 time state champion, he was also an All American at Reno worlds his senior year.
When asked why did Small choose to commit to UNC he replied, “I’m from New Mexico so it’s close to home, and UNC has had several guys come out of New Mexico in recent years, and that was certainly a factor but the main factor was that I went to several camps in Greely and fell in love with the program, and there can’t be enough said for what Coach Nickerson and his staff have done in developing the program to be competitive in the Big 12”. The question followed with what was Small looking forward to in the colligative level in which he replied, “What I’m looking forward to most is getting to work with and learn from guys that have been successful at the highest level of the sport”.
