Troy Steiner Named Gopher Wrestling Club Head Coach

Troy Steiner has been officially named as the head coach of the Gopher Wrestling Club. Former head coach Dustin Schlatter Stepped down from his position not too long ago to explore other opportunities outside of wrestling.

The Gopher Wrestling Club announced the hiring of Troy Steiner earlier today via Instagram post.

Steiner was a 4x All American for Iowa in the early 1990’s and even won a National Title for the Hawkeyes in 1992. This also includes multiple team titles with the Iowa Hawkeyes from 1991-1993. He was a 3x Big Ten Champion during his collegiate career as well.

He has been at many division 1 programs including assistant coaching jobs at Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon State, Fresno State and Minnesota.

The Gopher Wrestling Club will be looking to some big things at the upcoming World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. They have Hayden Zillmer competing at 125kg who just made his first world team at Final X this year.

During his time coaching NCAA wrestling Steiner has produced massive results. 22 All Americans, 10 Big Ten Champions, 1 Junior World Champion, as well as 6 National Champions.

Troy Steiner was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame back in 2013 for his collegiate and senior level wrestling career winning a National Title and making 9 National Teams as well. Some of his other accomplishments on the senior level include 3 placements at the Olympic Trials (3,3,5), World Cup Title, and a Pan American Title as well.

The Gopher Wrestling Club will look to do big things with this new addition and look to bring them back to the program they once were.
