Nick Feldman U20 Worlds Preview

Nick Feldman is one of the most dominant high school heavyweights I have seen but he has yet to really compete a lot in the international scene. He dominated his way through the Pan American championships and he will now be competing at the junior world championships in Sophia, Bulgaria.

Who is Feldman’s main competition heading into the world championships? Amirreza Masoumi seems to be the guy that everyone is talking about and rightfully so. He dominated the cadet world championships last year and won by technical superiority over Jimmy Mullen in the finals.

He got a wrestle off with the reigning senior world champion at 125kg Amir Zare and he would end up losing that match 11-3. That really doesn’t tell too much of his ability as he is only 18 years of age. The important stat is probably his win over Yadollah Mohebbi which he won 8-2, and with Mohebbi defeating 2x world medalist Nick Gwiazdowksi at the 2019 world championships it really makes things interesting.

Feldman has been as dominant as they come dominating college wrestlers at the US Open (U20) and walking through Pan Ams. He has 2 wins over Jimmy Mullen both by major decision so it will come down to who can beat the others style.

Feldman is a smaller heavyweight looking around the 230 range while Masoumi looks quite a bit bigger. Having the typical Iranian styler being dominant in underhooks it will be interesting to see if Feldman can get to his leg attacks and once he is in its a very high finishing percentage.

To be completely honest who knows if this match may go down at all. Or it might go down in round 1 or something crazy with how seeding has been in the past. These two guys are the ones to keep your eyes on either way.
