The two male wrestlers that would headline the commonwealth games Bajrang Punia and Deepak Punia were able to both come away with Gold Medals
We will be seeing Olympic silver medalist Ravi Kumar in action soon as well.
Bajrang Punia Tournament Stats-
Bajrang Punia VFA Lowe Bingham 4-0
Bajrang Punia VFA Jean Bandou 6-0
Bajrang Punia VSU George Ramm 10-0
Bajrang Punia VPO1 Lachlan McNeil 9-2
As you can see above the Olympic bronze medalist had no real trouble getting through the commonwealth games. His next appearance will most likely be at the upcoming world championships in Serbia where he will look to be back on the podium.
65kg is interesting with Otoguro out due to injury (reportadly) as well as Russia and Belarus not being able to compete.
Deepak Punia Tournament Stats-
Deepak Punia VSU Clay Oxenham 10-0
Deepak Punia VSU Sheku Kassegbama 10-0
Deepak Punia VPO1 Alexander Moore 3-1
Deepak Punia VPO Muhammad Inam 3-0
Deepak Punia was a little more contested in his run to a title at 86kg but had some solid wins along the way. Punia will be looking to get on the podium this year in Serbia after his disappointing finish in his last competition in the Olympics. Punia was leading by a point late in the match but surrendered a takedown to Myles Amine which would cost him the match and he would leave without a medal.
The 23 year old has a bright future with his last medal at the world championships coming in 2019 where he lost to none other than Hassan Yazdani. With Russia out (Artur Naifonov) he will have a much easier chance to get on the podium.
