Gerrit Nijenhuis has announced he will be transferring to the University of Oklahoma. Nijenhuis wrote, “Super excited for this chapter of my life!”.
During his time at Purdue University, Nijenhuis was ranked number 18 in the nation at the 165 pound weight class via trackwrestling. He was Purdues, first freshman to qualify for the NCAA championships since Christian Brunner in 2017. Nijenhuis finished 2-2 at the NCAA championships, pinning Hofstra’s Ricky Stamm and a 7-4 decision over Navy’s No. 14 seed Tanner Skidgel.
Nijenhuis was up at 174 this past season and had some really good wins the most iconic one being over All American Mikey Labriola in their dual meet.
When asked why did he choose to transfer to OU, Nijenhuis replied, “My deciding factor was I felt like Oklahoma had the best environment to help me accomplish my goals of becoming a national champion”.
Gerrit Nijenhuis will be wrestling his upcoming 2022-23 season at the University of Oklahoma.
