Ryder Downey has recently announced his commitment to the University of Northern Iowa. Downey mentioned he will be prolonging his wrestling career writing, “wrestling is fun, so I’m gonna do it a little longer”. Along with announcing he will be prolonging his wrestling career he also wrote, “the support from my community, family, and all of my coaches guided me to this point. with that being said, we’re keepin it purple and gold!”.
Downey had an extraordinary senior season as he placed first at the Class 3A state tittle in the 145 pound weight class. This was not Downey’s first rodeo as he had previously qualified for state all four years. During his freshman year, Downey placed 7th at state, sophomore he placed second at the 113 pound weight class, his junior year he went on to place fourth in the 132 pound weight class. Downey ended his high school career with a 183-25 record.
Ryder Downey will be staying in his home state of Iowa as he is the 28th in state senior to commit to Northern Iowa.
