Wow, in an already crazy week of wrestling things get even crazier with freshman Julian Ramirez taking out Shane Griffith 3-2. In a crazy Cornell debut things are already starting to blow up. Yianni gets the win over Abas at 149 pounds and Vito gets the win at 133 pounds. Cornell has not wrestled a match in about 2 years and what a way to come back.
Early in the first period Ramirez was able to get a counter attack and was able to secure a takedown on Griffith. Griffith was able to get a good amount of riding time in the second period before a Ramirez escape and insane lat drop that ultimately went out of bounds.
Time come the third period Griffith was able to get in on his attacks but was not able to finish within the last ten seconds. The entire match ended up coming down to a challenge call which ended up getting upheld and the freshman was able to come away with his debut win and possibly the biggest of the season so far.
Ramirez was one of the studs on an insanely stacked Blair Academy team a few years ago which you all know is rivals with Bergen Catholic and with Cornell having a few Bergen Catholic guys on the team it will lead to some fun matches in the future and just another level to the “cursed” 165 pound weight class.
