The biggest news at this weight class for the US Open is 2x world champion J’den Cox announcing that he will be moving up from 92kg and look to take out Kyle Snyder.
Snyder has been the guy to hold down 97kg since he took over the weight class in 2015. He has medaled at every single world championships or Olympic games and just won his 3rd world gold medal this past year in Belgrade.
J’den Cox in theory should not have too much trouble getting through the US Open just based on the caliber of wrestling that we have seen from him recently.
Some other notable names in this weight class are Mike Macchiavello, Joe Rau, and high schooler Ben Kueter who joins the field looking to make some noise on the senior level.
Kollin Moore looked to be the one guy who could give Cox some trouble before Final X with Snyder but with the 92 weight class being up for grabs Moore has decided to go down and will most likely face off with Nate Jackson for the world team spot.
My prediction for this weight is that J’den Cox will take care of business and advance to Final X to face Kyle Snyder. In that matchup I do think Snyder has what it takes to beat Cox again.
