Penn State will wrestle their second dual of the day vs North Carolina where they again unsurprisingly come in as massive favorites. The dual is scheduled to go down at 8pm EST on December 19th.
Projected Matches-
125- Gary Steen vs Jack Wagner
On paper this match is a toss up but Steen has again shown vast improvement from match to match so I will give him the decision victory here over Wagner.
133- Roman Bravo-Young vs Joey Melendez
RBY is looking as good as ever cruising through everyone he has wrestled so far this year. Most likely picks up a major here at least and maybe a tech but either way should win with relative ease.
141- Beau Bartlett vs Lachlan McNeil
Former high school teammates at Wyoming Seminary will face off at 141. Bartlett should be able to get the edge here, but if these two genuinely let it fly it will be a very fun match to watch.
149- Shayne Van Ness vs Zach Sherman
Van Ness looks to keep his move up the rankings going and a win over Sherman here would only add to his case. He should be able to win this match here but this will be a close one.
157- Terrell Barraclough vs Austin O’Connor
Only match of the night that the Tarheels are favored to win and obviously so as National Champion O’Connor will be looking to put UNC on the board. I will go with O’Connor by major decision here and maybe it swings a little bit to either side but I have been impressed with Barraclough lately.
165- Alex Facundo vs Joey Mazzara
Facundo will be on the hunt for bonus points in this match here wrestling a lower ranked Joey Mazzara. Focundo has looked very good offensively this season and has been able to put together some big wins.
174- Carter Starocci vs Clay Lautt
Lautt coming off a rough loss and will see Carter Starocci at the Collegiate Duals. Starocci should not lose this match by any means, but will he be able to break the match open and possibly threaten a major is the question.
184- Aaron Brooks vs Gavin Kane
Aaron Brooks looks o be on another level this season and this is just another chance for him to show off so look for him to threaten a tech here should he get his offense going later in the match.
197- Max Dean vs Max Shaw
Dean is looking to get back on track after his win against Oregon State. He should not have any problem here against Shaw of UNC and will most likely be able to get the decision or the pin depending on the route he goes with the match.
285- Greg Kerkvliet vs Brandon Whitman
Kerk is on another level compared to any heavyweight in the country at this point and he has been showing it racking up tech after tech. It should not be any different here looking at Whitman’s prior matches so look for Kerk to take care of business with ease.
