Artur Aleksanyan nicknamed the “White Bear” won his 4th world gold medal in Belgrade with a 5-1 decision victory over Bulgaria’s Kiril Milov 5-1.

Aleksanyan has been one of the best wrestlers in the world since 2012 when he won the European Championships and took bronze at the London Olympics. Since then he has been a dominant force winning an Olympic Gold and four world gold medals. In addition to that he has an Olympic Silver medal and two world silver medals.

He only really had two tough matches which came to Metehan Basar of Turkey who he beat 3-1 in the round of 16 and eventual bronze medalist and reigning World Champion Mohammad Saravi of Iran who he was able to gut wrench late to defeat 3-1.

With this elusive 5th gold medal he becomes just the 15th ever wrestler in the Greco-Roman division to hit this milestone and the second Armenian after Armen Nazaryan all the way back in 2005.

By far one of the most anticipated matchups throughout all styles should come next year where we should get to see Aleksanyan take on Russia’s Musa Evloev again which has been a staple rivalry on the Greco-Roman scene.
