It has been announced that the NWCA All Star Classic is back! It will be taking place November 22nd on Flowrestling.
The mens matchups have been announced as well as two of the women’s matches so far.
Men’s Matchups-
125- Patrick McKee vs Brandon Courtney
McKee and Courtney met in the 5/6th match at nationals. McKee won the match 8-3 taking out the national finalist.
This one will be fireworks and should be a lot closer than it was at the national tournament, and if McKee shows up he could grab another win over Courtney here.
133- Lucas Byrd vs Michael McGee
This match is definitely a toss up with Byrd placing 5th the past two years and McGee placing 4th this past season.
141- Cole Matthews vs Real Woods
This should be another fun one, a rematch of the 5/6th match from nationals where Matthews went big and was able to hit Woods with a 6 point move taking out Woods 7-3.
Matthews is ranked number one at this weight class by a majority of rankers being the highest returning place winner but this match should be an absolute war.
149- Sammy Sasso vs Austin Gomez
Another rematch which is a common theme in this event. These two met in the Big Ten finals where Gomez won 8-5. They also met in the NCAA consolation semifinals where Gomez won again 6-5.
This should be another fun one to watch and we will see how they have both developed in the offseason.
157- Will Lewan vs Jacori Teemer
Lewan defeated Teemer in the 5/6th place match at nationals this past season 4-2 in sudden victory. This should be a very close match and Teemer will look to get this one back.
165- Dean Hamiti vs Keegan O’Toole
This is a match that will show a lot about whether Hamiti will be able to contend for a national title. Hamiti burst onto the scene last year as a true freshman but fell to 6th place with a loss to Shane Griffith and Cam Amine.
O’Toole needs to introduction as the reigning National Champion and is looking to get the job done leaving no doubt who the best of 165 is. That won’t be so easy considering there is a 2nd match at 165.
165- David Carr vs Quincy Monday
Carr the 2021 National Champion and 2022 3rd place finisher up a weight class as well as Monday the 2022 national finalist will go toe to toe.
Sons of two legends will look to prove who is the best in the weight and that they can contend for a title at 165 which has 3 national champions.
174- Carter Starocci vs Mekhi Lewis
The match of the night 100%. The 2022 national finals went down to the wire with Starocci winning off of riding time. Lewis will look to get revenge over the 2x National Champion and be just the 3rd wrestler to ever hand Starocci a loss in college.
184- Aaron Brooks vs Parker Keckeisen
Last time they wrestled was at the Collegiate Duals last season, Brooks won that match 3-2. They are the top 2 wrestlers at this weight and might go toe to toe again in the national finals.
197- Jacob Warner vs Stephen Buchanan
Warner had a massive breakout season last year beating Buchanan and Schultz to make the national finals where he eventually lost to Max Dean.
Buchanan coming into his final season is looking to become one of the only ever National Champions out of Wyoming, and this is a matchup he will most likely see at nationals.
285- Greg Kerkvliet vs Tony Cassioppi
Cassioppi vs Kerkvliet has been a very entertaining match this past year the two times it has went down. Cassioppi won both the dual and at Big Tens with the second win coming in overtime.
Kerkvliet will look to get revenge here and snag a first national title as well as Cassioppi.
Women’s Matches-
143- Adaugo Nwachukwu vs Alara Boyd
Nwachukwu was the NAIA National Champion down at 136 pounds as well as a U20 world bronze medalist and Alara Boyd was a WCWC Champion and Runner Up.
191- Gabrielle Hamilton vs Sydnee Kimber
Two of the most dominant women’s wrestlers at the collegiate level at 191 pounds and should be another good bout.
