Big news for the upcoming World Championships as Asian and Eurpean Champion Ilyas Bekbulatov’s 4 year suspension has been revoked.
Originally suspended for 4 years which came out a month ago after he tested positive for a banned substance a little over a month ago. They filed a counter lawsuit and the results of it said that he would be able to compete right away according to the RUSADA.
The biggest question is what weight class will he be goin. He has competed at 65kg and 70kg in the past and attempted to qualify for the Olympics at 65kg. Should he go 65kg he will be a threat to medal and especially with Otoguro and Rashidov out he could win it if in top shape. He looked like he was going to medal in Tokyo but missed weight for the last chance qualifier so this needs to be where he shows up.
He is a 3x European Championships medalist winning gold, silver, and bronze and since he transferred to compete for Uzbekistan he was claimed gold at the Asian Championships in 2020 as well as a title at the prestigious Yasar Dogu.
At 32 years old this suspension would have most likely been the end of his career so it will be fun to see what he can do in his final years of competition.
