We have all heard about the infamous match where an 18 year old Lee Kemp defeated one of the greatest wrestlers in American history. We got the chance to talk to Lee Kemp on episode 111 of our podcast.
Lee Kemp talks about how Dan Gable came out of retirement to make the Olympic Team and how his coaches wanted him to move away from Gable to avoid the match.
Prior to this match Kemp lost to one of Gable’s wrestlers Chuck Yagla the year before in the national finals by split referees decision.
Kemp would end up knocking off Gable 7-6 being the final score. Kemp would go on to win 3 more national titles and never lose another match for the remainder of his college career.
