Carson Floyd has recently announced his commitment to Appalachian State University. Via instagram Floyd stated, “I’m so proud to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at app wrestling” he also thanked everyone who helped him get to that point.
During his high school career Floyd was a 2021 NHSCA All American and was a 2021 Super 32 All American. Alongside being an NHSCA All American he also placed second at the NHSCA senior nationals.
Although Floyd wrestled 220 for most of his season he was wrestling as a heavyweight at the 2022 NCHSAA state championship. When asked why he moved up to 285 Floyd replied, “I bumped up to let my teammate have a shot at winning it”. According to Floyd he was 79 pounds under. Even though all his opponents had the weight advantage on him, he managed to place 1st.
When asked what was the deciding factor on his decision to commit to App wrestling he replied, “I wasn’t planning on app state and they were my 4th official visit but when I got there it kind of blew me away.” He praised coach Bentley as he is a North Carolina legend and was a 4x undefeated state champion back in the late 90’s. Floyd continued, “While I was there for my visit I watched one of their practices that was super intensive. Everyone there was drenched after and coach Bentley was right there with them. He was grabbing all the starters and beating up on them”. He admired the fact that coach Bentley was doing everything he expects from his wrestlers and mentioned how most head coaches aren’t on the mats. He also mentioned how App state cares about all their athletes with him adding, “Their training room was nice, they get the nicest dorms, they get a free smoothie after their workouts, and they have unlimited chocolate milk. Doesn’t really get better than that.”
Looking at how he dominated at heavyweight while weighing 213 he will be a wrestler to watch out for.
