Jordan Burroughs today has officially accepted his bid to Final X at 79kg. He earned this bid do to him claiming a medal at this past world championships in Oslo where he won his 5th world title and his 6th gold medal.
Last year this was a bit different with covid and being free bids to the world championships given out if you medaled in Tokyo. This is essentially why Burroughs made the move up to 79kg in the first place where he is now undisputed number 1 in the world.
Burroughs biggest competition may just be inside the USA with Alex Dieringer who with as stacked of a resume that he has still has never made a world team. He has only really lost to Dake and Burroughs to be kept off of world teams.
Other competitors at this weight class include Isaiah Martinez who is one of the few to ever post a win against the Olympic Champ. Jason Nolf who had a big win over World Champion Khetik Tsabolov. Chance Marstellar who has just been solid all around and has a win over Tsabolov as well. Finally Carter Starocci who Burroughs said himself is a guy who he is going to be watching out for as Starocci posted a big win over Nolf at the 2021 world team trials.
Burroughs will be looking to make his 11th World and Olympic Team and hopefully win his 7th gold medal which would make his the greatest American wrestler of all time statistically.
