Maya Nelson has just announced she will not be participating in this year’s World Team Trial. She stated that she had suffered an injury in which she received surgery but will not be able to get cleared for World Team Trials.

Maya Nelson is an accomplished wrestler with an extensive resume to back her up. Although she is only 23, she has achieved many things such as being a 4 times Senior National Team Member, a 2021 PanAm Champion and a 2021 Senior World Team Member.

This injury stems from the Senior World Championships in which she was wrestling against Shoovdor Baatarjav, Nelson was up 3-0 at break, but suffered a shoulder injury in the early second round. Although she was injured, she continued the match against the Mongolian, her resilience was admirable, but this injury proved to change the dynamic of the match. The mongolian was dominating and the match ended up 4-3 with Nelson placing 5th.

According to Nelson in a recent post, she had surgery in November 2021 and will not be cleared in time for World Team Trials and wished good luck to all her friends this year.

Her comments are filled with positive messages such as “Gonna Come Back Stronger Than Ever” by Chain Wrestle and lots more wishing her a speedy recovery.

Although this injury stopped her from World Team Trials, she hinted towards wrestling the Champion of her weight class (62kg).

This injury is just a small obstacle and Nelson still has a bright future ahead of her.
