History has been made today as the state of Ohio has officially sanctioned women’s wrestling. This will be official to start the 2022-2023 school year.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors has voted unanimously to add girls wrestling as a recognized sport by the OHSAA. Some sports that came along with this are boys/girls lacrosse, and boys volleyball. Previously these were acknowledged as emerging sports and not completely recognized but now they will be at the start of next year.

“The OHSAA has been talking with the boys volleyball and girls wrestling leaders for several years and we are now in the position to bring these two sports into the OHSAA”- OHSAA Executive Director Doug Ute

They have also stated that since they have been holding the girls wrestling tournament even though the sport was not sanctioned they will still be looking to keep the same format of the state tournament and not interfere too much.
