#14 Andrew Alirez Upsets #7 Allan Hart In Mizzou Vs UNC Dual Meet

Andew Alirez has been one of the more underrated wrestlers in the country for a while now but has always had some doubt behind whether he could get it done over these top ranked guys or not. Today he just beat Mizzou’s Allan Hart 3-1 in sudden victory to pick up a top 10 win at the beginning of the season which is very big for him heading into the rest of the season.

Although the dual meet was rough for UNC in general getting pretty much swept by the Tigers Alirez proved the be the one bright spot in the lineup during this tough loss which was a bit of an out match. UNC is one of the lower tier schools in D1 at the moment however with a young Alirez on their team they could be looking at an All American this season if he can replicate this success at the national tournament.

Last season Alirez did qualify for the NCAA Tournament but it was through an at large bid. This season he has already started off much better and not battling injuries at the moment. 2020 when he was healthy he did end up qualifying for the NCAA Tournament and pulled the number 14 seed until it was unfortunately cancelled. This will be his next chance in his Sophomore campaign to see if he can put something together and come out as an All American. If we look at the weight class as a whole it is insane near the top with Yianni Diakomihalis, Sammy Sasso, and a few other guys who are battling to get on the podium.

This season has looked great so far and is off to an amazing start for Alirez but can he put it together is the big question.
