Mason Parris has done it and wins 125kg gold at the Budapest ranking series going 3-0 in the tournament.
In the first round he faced Georgian Givi Matcharashvili who is Georgia’s Olympic representative at 97kgs. Parris came out on top in that match 9-2 to advance to the semifinals.
Parris would face Puerto Rico’s Jonovan Smith. This was all Parris as he would secure the 10-0 win by technical superiority to advance to the finals.
An absolute stunner in the other semifinal bout as Kazakhstan’s Yusup Batirmurzaev pinned Geno Petriashvili who was the clear favorite to win the tournament from the start. Geno would end up winning bronze with a win over Egypt.
In the finals it was yet another dominant performance from Parris as Batirmurzaev went big early in the match looking for a chest wrap, Parris countered well and ended up securing the fall in just 34 seconds to win gold.
