125kg Budapest Ranking Series Preview

125kgs at the Budapest ranking series looks like it will be one of the more interesting weight classes in men’s freestyle.

Entries:

Giorgi MESHVILDISHVILI (AZE)

Georgi IVANOV (BUL)
Diaaeldin ABDELMOTTALEB (EGY)
Geno PETRIASHVILI (GEO)

Amirreza MASOUMI VALADI (IRI)
Yusup BATIRMURZAEV (KAZ)
Jonovan SMITH (PUR)
Mason PARRIS (USA)
Khasanboy RAKHIMOV (UZB)

Favorites:

Geno Petriashvili, Mason Parris, and Amirreza Masoumi look like the clear favorites to win gold here.

Masoumi of course is one of the best wrestlers in the world and crazy enough is only 19 years old. He probably won’t see the international scene too much unfortunately as he is behind Amir Zare who at this point in time is the clear number one at 125kgs. Amirreza’s father Fardin Masoumi was a heavyweight wrestler for Iran as well winning medals at the world championships in 2008 and 2008.

Mason Parris looks like a real threat here to win gold. Last year at the world championships he lost a close bout to Petriashvili 6-8 in the semifinals and would win bronze. Last time Parris and Masoumi met it was a 11-6 victory for Masoumi as he just seemed to be the better wrestler.

Geno Petriashvili obviously has been one of the best wrestlers in the world for over a decade now and is the favorite to win gold in Budapest until proven otherwise. 3x world champion, 2x Olympic medalist, and way too many medals to count.

Overall:

If I had to make a prediction here it will most likely be Petriashvili who comes out on top here. Mason Parris could definitely shake some things up. Or Masoumi just walks over the entire field which is genuinely a possibility at this point.
