Japan’s Yui Susaki has been without a doubt the best women’s wrestler in the world for years now and she is only 24 years old.
At the Tokyo Olympics it was pure domination from Susaki as she won by technical superiority against all four of her opponents and outscored the opposition 41-0 on her way to Olympic gold.
Leading Up To The Olympics:
Susaki was dominant at the 2017 world championships in Paris where she won her first world title in the 48kg weight class
2018 in Budapest was no different for the Japanese superstar as she pitched a shut out over the field winning by either technical superiority or fall against all of her opponents to win her second world title.
In 2019 it was a shocker as Susaki was defeated at the Japan world team trials to Irie Yuki. Yuki would go on to have a decent performance at the world championships in Nur-Sultan but would miss the podium after a loss to China’s Sun Yanan, and was eliminated after Yanan’s loss to Mariya Stadnik in the semifinals.
Given this performance by Yuki, it would be Susaki who would represent Japan at the Tokyo Olympics at 50kgs.
The Tokyo Olympics:
As said before it was domination from start to finish for Susaki as it was just like the 2018 world championships as she pitched another shutout over the field teching all of her opponents.
Stats-
1/8 Finals-
10-0 vs Tsogt-Ochiryn Namuuntsettseg (Mongolia)
10-0 vs Lucia Yepez (Ecuador)
11-0 vs Mariya Stadnik (Azerbaijan)
10-0 vs Sun Yanan (China)
Heading To Paris-
Susaki did not wrestle at the 2021 world championships in Oslo as did many other top competitors given the quick turnaround from the Olympics.
At the 2022 world champions it was no surprise as Susaki pitched yet another shutout over the competition not giving up a single point the whole tournament.
The 2023 world championships in Belgrade was domination once again from Susaki but no shutout this time as she gave up 3 points throughout the tournament and finished 3 out of 4 opponents on her way to winning world title number 4.
Heading into the Paris Olympics there is no doubt Susaki will be the clear favorite to win gold. Does anyone else stand a chance?
