Day 4 of the 2023 U23 World Championships is in the books and the Team USA women’s squad has won two medals.
At 50kg Audrey Jimenez was unfortunately forced to forfeit her finals match against Umi Ito of Japan due to injury which gives her a silver medal finish.
Kennedy Blades met Reetika of India in the finals at 76kg, it was all Reetika from start to finish as she was able to claim a 9-2 win over Blades. Blades finishes with a silver medal as well.
Other Sessions:
Katie Gomez (53kg) lost round one to Fernt of Romania, and after Ferent’s loss in the quarterfinals Gomez has been eliminated from the world championships.
Xochitl Mota-Pettis (57kg) was pinned by Sara Natami in her first match, Natami cruised her way into the finals and is set for an interesting finals bout with Azerbaijan’s Zhala Aliyeva. Mota-Pettis has been pulled back into the tournament and will wrestle Ukraine’s Filipovych to get into the bronze medal match where the winner will face Kamaloglu of Turkey.
Adaugo Nwachukwu (62kg) won her first match against Rojas of Mexico but was teched by Kuznetsova of Kazakstan in the following round. Koznetsova lost to Ukraine in the following round eliminating Nwachukwu from the world championships.
Macey Kilty (65kg) won all of her matches pretty easily up until the semifinals where she saw Moldova’s Irina Ringaci and dropped a tough 6-5 decision. Kilte is sitting in the bronze medal bout for tomorrow and awaits the winner of Monika (UWW) and Efe (TUR).
Amit Elor (72kg) as expected is into the U23 finals looking to defend her title. He first two matches were won by very quick pins and she defeated Poland’s Cholug 5-0 in the semifinals. She will face Jyoti Berwal (UWW) in the finals tomorrow for her shot at another gold.
