The USA women’s team at the U20 world championships had a solid performance winning 5 medals and securing 3rd place finish in the team race behind Japan (2nd) and India (1st).

Coming away with medals are Audrey Jimenez (Silver), Amani Jones (Bronze), Alexis Janiak (Bronze), Amit Elor (Gold), and Kennedy Blades (Bronze).

Other results for the women’s team include Katie Gomez (5th), Cristelle Rodriguez (12th), Adaugo Nwachukwu (7th), Madeline Kubicki (15th), and Bella Mir (5th).

Overview:

There were three main topics to cover and I will talk briefly about all of them.

The first is Alexis Janiak who ended up finishing with a bronze medal. In her semifinal match she was leading until the final whistle, her opponent’s corner threw the challenge brick and they were awarded a point winning the match. Her opponent would go on to win the gold medal match as well.

Kennedy Blades would lose 10-0 getting teched in the first period in her semifinal match vs India who would go on to win gold. Blades would come back and win her bronze medal match. After the tournament Blades put out a tweet post talking about how she had food poisoning and was 6kg under during the world championships and would have to be hospitalized after her semifinal loss.

The final one is Amit Elor, last year’s senior world champion had absolutely no issue cruising her way through this bracket with 3 techs and a pin outscoring her opponents 36-0. She will look to defend her senior level crown at the world championships later this year in Belgrade.
