Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili have agreed to a featured bantamweight main event at UFC Fight Night on March 11 in Las Vegas.
Both fighters are ranked in the top 5, Yan No. 4 and Dvalishvili No. 5, and are both set for a huge 135-pound fight at UFC Fight Night 221.
Dvalishvili is a surging bantamweight contender who is on a dominant eight-fight winning streak, and unanimously defeated Jose Aldo at UFC 278 in the process. The Georgian native continues to rapidly rise in the bantamweight division, however has openly stated that he will not be fighting teammate and current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling.
Yan has lost three out of his last four fights, however has solidified himself as one of the most dangerous fighters in the bantamweight division. Yan’s last fight was a controversial split-decision loss against No. 1 Sean O’Malley at UFC 280, and his fight before that was another very close loss to bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling at UFC 273.
Despite those close losses, Yan continues to be right in the mix of the best fighters at 135-pounds, and has convincing and violent victories over highly-touted bantamweight fighters such as Cory Sandhagen, Jose Aldo, and Urijah Faber.
Yan and Dvalishvili is a very interesting matchup, both known for having elite grappling. The main event at UFC Fight Night 221 seems to be set for fireworks, as the two will battle for another step towards contending for the 135-pound title.
