Jake Varner is a freestyle wrestling Olympic champion for the United States. He won gold at the 2012 London Olympic games where he defeated Ukraine’s Valeriy Andriytsev 2-0 in the finals.
In addition to his gold medal at the Olympic games, Varner also has a Pan-American championship gold, and a bronze medal at the world championships (2011).
Varner was defeated for the 2015 and 2016 teams by Kyle Snyder and would announce his retirement soon after and is now the head coach of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club and a coach at Penn State alongside Cael Sanderson.
