The number 2 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes will be facing off against the #11 Northwestern Wildcats Friday at 8pm CST. A lot has yet to be seen from Iowa but if they don’t have Real Woods it might be possible for Northwestern to grab a win, however with all that being said everything would need to go right.
Projected Matches:
125- Spencer Lee (Iowa) vs Michael DeAugustino (Northwestern)
Chances are DeAugustino will not be wrestling as he has been out for a while after his injury at the CKLV. If he does wrestle it will show a lot about where Spencer is at for the time being.
Let’s go with the more probably circumstance which would be Lee vs the backup, and assuming team points are important Lee will probably shoot for the fall.
133- Cullan Schriever (Iowa) vs Chris Cannon (Northwestern)
Cannon beat Schriever when they wrestled last season 5-3. By looking at how they have done since then it will be hard to bet against him here.
141- Real Woods (Iowa) vs Frankie Tal-Shahar (Northwestern)
Woods coming out for Iowa is a big what if here. If he does he will be the favorite to win this one but if the Hawks get forced to put out Drew Bennet then this could lead to something big for Northwestern.
149- Max Murin (Iowa) vs Yahya Thomas (Northwestern)
Looking at how they have been wrestling this season Yahya would have to be the favorite here, however these guys have meet three times in the past and Murin has won all of them, and by a single point at that.
This match will be pivotal in either of these teams runs to win the dual meet, and if Iowa can come away with another win here that may put the dual out of reach going down the line.
157- Cobe Siebrecht (Iowa) vs Trevor Chumbley (Northwestern)
Chumbley has been looking phenomenal and just got a massive win over Minnesota’s Brayton Lee in his last match, he will need to grab a bonus point win here if Northwestern wants a chance.
165- Patrick Kennedy (Iowa) vs Max Mayfield (Northwestern)
This one shouldn’t be close and bonus points will be big for Iowa, would not be surprised should Kennedy be able to get a tech or a pin here.
174- Nelson Brands (Iowa) vs Troy Fisher (Northwestern)
Nelson Brands comes in as a solid favorite here to take the win, should not have too much trouble with Fisher here.
184- Abe Assad (Iowa) vs Evan Bates (Northwestern)
Another match where Iowa is the clear favorite, would be nice for Assad to get bonus points here but it might be a stretch.
197- Jacob Warner (Iowa) vs Andrew Davison (Northwestern)
These two wrestled last season where it was a major decision win for Warner, look for it to be a bit closer this time and Warner wins by decision in my eyes.
285- Tony Cassioppi (Iowa) vs Lucas Davison (Northwestern)
This match might be what the dual meet comes down to, and this has happened quite a bit for Iowa and what happens is Cassioppi comes out and bullies the guy.
Northwestern has an actual heavyweight with AA Lucas Davison who lost to Cassioppi 7-4 last year. Davison almost had Cassioppi pinned so no matter the result here look for it to be a fun match.
