Heavyweight Nation wrestler of the week will be going to Illinois 197 pounder Zac Braunagel. This week he was able to secure a big win over Iowa’s returning national finalist Jacob Warner 3-1 with a late takedown.
In addition to this win over Warner he secured a 4-3 decision victory over Wisconsin’s Braxton Amos, and his 2nd win of the season against the Badger.
Braunagel is a 3x national qualifier in the past 3 seasons he has wrestled and had his best performance last year with a 17-9 record making the blood round at nationals.
He is already off to a hot start this year with a record of 15-3 and will look to keep that going as we head into the main part of the schedule.
Looking at his schedule for the remainder of the season he will see a few top wrestlers which include Maryland’s Jaxon Smith, Michigan State’s Cameron Caffey, and Iowa State’s Yonger Bastida.
