Northwestern 149 pounder Yahya Thomas has been named Big Ten wrestler of the week after his first place finish at the Midlands Championships.
Thomas entered the tournament as the two seed and was able to get through Penn’s Doug Zapf and Arizona State’s Kyle Parco to win his title.
He placed 3rd at the national championships back in 2021 but failed to place last year falling in the blood rounds to Tariq Wilson.
Already off to a hot start with an 11-1 record so far this season, Thomas will look to keep it going strong and get back on the podium.
In just the next few matches Thomas will be facing Iowa’s Max Murin, and Ohio State’s Sammy Sasso.
