There may have been a little bit of doubt about Isaiah Martinez coming into this tournament about how healthy he was and if maybe Skatzka would have his number this time but he put those doubts to bed quick.
He got up 9-0 over Skatzka after a big 4 point exchange early with 2 more takedowns and a push out. Skatzka would end up scoring 3 points to start the second period to regain momentum but a takedown late and a lace would be the end of it and IMAR will be heading to Iowa to compete in the world team trials.
He will be looking to get back to Final X just like he did back in 2019 and if he does he will see the same man again Jordan Burroughs. The 79kg field is more stacked than ever with guys like Alex Dieringer, Vincenzo Joseph, David McFadden and Carter Starocci in the field. One key move was Jason Nolf going back down to 74kg.
Should be interesting to see what Martinez can do at the world team trials and if he can get back on track.
