Jordan Burroughs Quest For A 7th Gold Medal

There is no doubt that Jordan Burroughs has been the face of USA Wrestling for as long as most of us can remember. He just recently tied John Smith for the most World and Olympic gold medals won at 6.

If he claims his 7th this year in Serbia he will essentially be the unanimous goat of USA Wrestling. The biggest question that remains is how long can Burroughs keep doing this. People have been saying he is too old, he is worn down, he is not that same guy. Most people thought it would be over when Burroughs fell to Dake at the Olympic Trials but he shut that down pretty quick winning his 6th gold medal in Oslo shortly after.

Burroughs will have a stacked field to get past to even make this team which would be his 11th, this includes guys like Alex Dieringer, Jason Nolf, Isaiah Martinez, and Carter Starocci who are all waiting for their chance to take him out.

Should Burroughs make his 11th team which most would expect him to he would be 34 years old while at the world championships which is insane in itself but he has had some close matches on the international scene recently.

if Burroughs does win his 7th gold medal in Serbia he will break into the top 10 all time list of all time gold medals putting himself alongside guys like Saitiev, Medved, Fadzaev, and Beloglazov.

It will be very interesting to see what Burroughs does with his career going forward at his age. There is only so long someone can compete and doing it for as long as he has it begs the questions for what his intentions are, whether they are to pass Smith in gold medals or claim that 2nd Olympic Gold to get the fairytale ending he never did.
