Pat Downey Announces Official Retirement

If anyone has followed Pat Downey throughout his career we all know that it has been a rollercoaster. He was recently scheduled to make an appearance at the Matmen open which was being held in place of the midlands where he was planning on wrestling alongside Mark Hall as senior level athletes.

Since then news came back about him allegedly not sending out signed singlets that he promised to sell after charging for them. After this occurred Downey then made a series of tweets pertaining to this issue essentially saying that he did send out all of the singlets that he had promised he would. Downey ended up receiving a lot of backlash for this as expected with numerous big wrestling figures on Twitter such as Pat Mineo and more calling him out on this lie. There is no way at the moment for us to tell if this is true or not but with the overwhelming number of people that are backing this up now we can only assume.

Since this Downey let out another tweet pictured above. He said even though he did not leave his shoes on the mat at the Olympic Trials he is officially retired from the sport of wrestling. He was supposed to wrestle three times since the Olympic Trials. Once was supposed to be for the Stalemates street league vs Kyven Gadson in the main event where he ended up pulling out and did not show. The next one being the World Team Trials where he was planning on cutting down to 79kg to challenge for a second world team spot where he either did not make weight or did not show (full details have not been found). The last being being at the Matmen open which obviously did not happen.

Will this be the last we see of Pat Downey? Honestly who knows.
