As the Iowa Hawkeyes make their season debut at the D3 Luther Open they were expected to sweep pretty much every weight class. However this was not the case and some guys came up with insane upsets and that includes high schooler Clayton Whiting who is a Missouri commit.

Whiting was pretty much unchallenged the entire tournament with a Pin, Tech Fall, and a Major Decision. However when it came time for the finals a lot of people immediately wrote him out because Abe Assad at a point was one time a top 10 guy in the D1 scene. The match was competitive overall but a third period takedown is what won the Tiger commit the title at the Luther Open as he defeated Hawkeye Abe Assad 4-3 and stunning the crowd.

Whiting is in the class of 2022 and he will be attending the University of Missouri next year and compete for the Tigers. After this showing who knows he just may be the next J’den Cox for them and that would be huge for them as a team. their outlook is on the rise now with Keegan O’Toole, Rocky Elam, Zach Elam and now with Clayton Whiting coming in they are going to be a dangerous team soon.
