Not much needs to be said about Gable Steveson. Everyone knows who he is and all the eyes are on him this year which he declared his final run in college wrestling. He will open his final season up at the Bison Open at North Dakota State.
Notable opponents at this tournament for Gable Steveson would be assuming the schools bring everyone Trent Hillger of Wisconsin who is a 3x All American and has wrestled Gable in the past. Gable Steveson vs Trent Hillger have been some of my favorite matches to watch because unlike most guys Hillger actually attacks and takes shots on Gable Steveson. Granted Hillger has not won any of their past matchups and this will most likely be a major decision or a tech for Gable it will be a fun match nonetheless and most likely go down in the finals.
The next two guy are kind of mid tier when it comes to performance at NCAAs but those are North Dakota State’s Brandon Metz and South Dakota State’s AJ Nevills. I could not really see too much of anything happening in these match to be honest but they are some more ranked wins to add to Gables resume if that means anything at this point.
With all of that being said it has been a while since we have seen Gable Steveson in a wrestling match and it is good to have him back on the folkstyle scene and have more eyes back in the sport. My overall expectations for this event are pretty much Gable Steveson to walk through it relatively untouched and with a fun explosive match against Trent Hillger in the finals.
